It’s St Patrick’s Day, and people all around the world unite to celebrate.
The March 17 celebration started in 1631 when the Church established a Feast Day honoring St. Patrick. He had been Patron Saint of Ireland who had died around the fifth century- 12 centuries before the modern version of the holiday was ever first observed. So- we have been celebrating for a very long time!!!
And since it falls in March- when it is still a bit cold- we thought what better way to celebrate this holiday than with a nice hot cocoa? Great for the kids- or add a fun ingredient for the adults!
Here’s what you will need:
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup white chocolate chips
- 3-4 drops green food coloring
- 1/4 tsp of mint extract
- whipped cream optional
- sprinkles mini marshmallows for garnish – optional
- 1 shot Bailey’s – Adult Version
You will also need a small sauce pan and wooden spoon.
Let’s get started!!!.
Heat the milk in a sauce pan over low heat. Stir often and be careful not to let the milk boil. Pour in the white chocolate chips and continue stirring until all the chips are melted.
Mix in the mint extract- feel free to add more for a stronger mint taste. Add in a few drops of green food coloring, for a festive twist. Three or four drops will give you a nice, mint green color, but add more for desired color- or you can choose to add no color-the choice is yours 🙂
Remove from heat and pour into glass.
Add a shot of Bailey’s if you’re in the St. Paddy’s spirit, and garnish with sprinkles, marshmallows, whipped cream, or whatever you’re heart desires.
Enjoy!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
